A full walkthrough of the platform, in order, so you know what you can do at every stage — whether you're looking to adopt or you have a pet waiting for a home.
Adopsys is a platform designed to make adopting or rehoming a pet a simple, transparent, and supported experience from start to finish.
If you're looking to adopt, you can explore complete profiles, ask questions by chat, and feel safe at every step. If you have pets to rehome (as an individual rescuer or a foundation), you can list them, evaluate applications with your own criteria, and follow up after the match.
This guide walks you through everything you can do, in order.
The first step is to sign up. You can do it with your email and a password, or directly with your Google account if you'd rather skip a step.
If you choose email, we'll send you a 6-digit code to confirm it's you. Once verified, your account is ready to use.
You don't have to decide yet whether you'll adopt or list pets — a single account lets you do both whenever you want.
Once you're in, take a minute to complete your profile: name, a photo, and your location (country, state, and city). This helps others get to know you and lets us show you pets and events near you.
If you represent a foundation or an organized rescue, you can enable foundation mode to add a description, website, social links, and donation links (Mercado Pago, PayPal, Cafecito, and others). You can also request verification so an official badge appears on your profile and builds more trust with the people you want to adopt your pets.
The pets section shows all the pets looking for a home. You can filter by type (dog, cat, rabbit, bird, other), size, sex, location, and traits (neutered, vaccinated, good with kids, needs a yard, etc.).
You can also search by name, save favorites with the heart icon to come back later, and share any profile through social networks or WhatsApp. If a pet is available as foster care, you'll see it clearly marked.
If you have a pet looking for a home, listing is quick. You'll fill in the basics (name, type, sex, size, age), upload between 1 and 5 photos, mark their traits, and choose whether you're offering them for permanent adoption or foster care.
You can also add their medical history (vaccines, deworming, surgeries, check-ups) so the adopter has all the information from day one.
From your dashboard you can edit any field anytime, pause a listing if you want it to stop showing without deleting it (for example, if you already have candidates) and reactivate it whenever you like, or delete it permanently.
When a pet catches your attention, you can start a conversation with the person who listed them. Chat happens in real time: you'll see when someone replies, get notifications in the site's bell and by email, and return to the conversation whenever you want.
People who list pets can leave private notes on each conversation to remember important details — only they can see those notes.
To keep things manageable and respectful, there's a limit on active conversations per person. If a chat goes quiet for several days, the platform sends reminders, and if there's still no movement it closes automatically to free up space.
When the person who listed a pet wants to know more about you, they'll ask you to fill in an adoption form. There you'll share contact details, describe your home (house or apartment, whether it has a yard, whether there are other pets or kids), and leave a personal message.
Whoever lists a pet — whether an individual or a foundation — can add up to 10 custom questions to get to know you better based on their own responsible-adoption criteria.
Filling in the form doesn't commit you to anything: it's part of the conversation so both sides can decide with peace of mind.
With the form completed, the person who listed the pet decides. They can approve the adoption or decline it, optionally leaving a reason that the other side will receive by email.
If approved as a permanent adoption, the pet is marked as adopted, all other interested people are notified, and the other conversations close automatically.
If approved as foster care, the pet is marked as 'in foster' and stays visible in the listings. Other conversations don't close: it can keep receiving permanent adoption requests until a permanent home is confirmed.
After approving an adoption, you can create a digital contract with the terms both sides agree on (care commitments, neutering, responsibilities). The person who listed the pet drafts and signs it, and the adopter signs from their account.
It's optional but strongly recommended: it puts the commitment in writing and stays stored on the platform for reference whenever you need it.
Adoption doesn't end on match day. The person who listed the pet can schedule follow-ups on the dates they choose to see how they're settling into their new home.
At each follow-up, the adopter can share updates, photos, and a comment. If they forget, the platform sends automatic reminders.
When the process wraps up, both sides can leave a rating (1 to 5 stars) with a comment. That reputation is visible on profiles and helps build a more trustworthy community.
Beyond day-to-day use of the platform, you can organize or join adoption events: gatherings in parks, fairs, foundation meetups. Anyone with an account can create an event with date, time, location, and the pets they'll bring.
Events are shown as a list and on a calendar, and you can filter them by location to find the ones near you. It's a great way to meet the lister and the pet in person before taking the next step.
From your settings you can change the language (Spanish or English), choose which email notifications you want to receive (transactional ones always arrive; reminders and adoption updates are opt-in), and manage the custom questions you add to your adoption form.
If you ever see content that shouldn't be on the platform (spam, false information, any irregularity), you can report it from the pet's or user's profile — our team reviews every report.
And if you want to leave, you can delete your account whenever you like. When you do, we remove your personal data, listings, conversations, and any files you uploaded. Sensitive information shared with other people is anonymized to protect your privacy.
